Born in Manchester, to an English mother and Jordanian father, Sara has lived in Amman, London, Dubai, and Germany.   As a child she wanted to be a writer and a ballerina and have four children and four dogs. She’s halfway there. 

She studied at Goldsmiths College in London in the 90s, then worked as a teacher, journalist and comms manager before becoming a full-time writer.  She has always had a myriad of pets, from the ones she’s adopted like her dogs, to the ones who’ve adopted her like the stray kittens who wandered into her garden and refused to budge.  She loves watching her kids turn the family garden into an endless number of fantastical settings for grand adventures.  That is exactly how she remembers her own childhood. 

Sara’s first book, The Itchy Hedgehog, was inspired by the many hedgehogs who lived in her garden over the years.  

When she’s not writing or running after her children or dreaming about playing golf again (never enough time) she can be found in the garden arguing with her husband about what to do with the newts living at the bottom of the water fountain.
